May 31 - June 5, 2009	2009 Flat-Coated Retriever Society of America National Specialty - Warwick, RI: The Islandflats crew heads to our breed nationals. All our dogs were entered in several events. Crystal in Agility and Veteran Sweeps. Logan in Brace Conformation (with Lylah), Rally-O, and BOB. Lylah in Obedience, Brace Conformation (with Logan), and Open Bitch. The minute we arrived,Lylah goes into season ... scratch obedience and brace conformation. Crystal has problems running agility, but she does earn a Special Veteran's medal in veteran sweeps. Logan earns a qualifying score and rosette in Rally; and that's about it. Even though the judges didn't favor our dogs in the conformation events, we all had such a great time! Kudos to the NEFCRC for planning and organizing an event that will always carry happy, long lasting memories at Islandflats.
May 23, 2009	Monmouth County KC dog show - Freehold, NJ: A new tiltle for Crystal! Handled by Terry, Crystal earns her third leg in Rally Excellent and with that comes a new title ...TLC Starlite's First Gleaming CD RE OA AXJ NAC RL1 CGC. What to do next? More Rally? Agility? Something else ...
May 9, 2009	Port Chester OTC Agility trials - Yorktown Heights, NY: Crystal and Margaret doing agility again ... This time Crystal earns a few more MACH points as she earns another qualifying score in Excellent B Jumpers. She still needs only 1 more qualifier in Standard to complete her AX title, but today wouldn't be the day. Maybe next time ...
April 19, 2009	SOTC Agility Trials, Yaphank, NY: After a long winter with limited training, Margaret & Crystal are back in the agility ring. Today, Crystal earns her first ever MACH points with a qualifying score in Excellent B jumpers. OK so we don't exactly have aspirations to go MACH, but Crystal showed she has what it takes by placing fifth in a tough class, on a difficult course. We definitely see more such points in her future!
April 7, 2009	We celebrate another birthday! Lylah turns three today! Islandflats sends happy birthday wishes to Lylah and her littermates: Piper, C.J., and Rasta. Happy birthday to the Islandflats Rock N Roll "A" litter!
March 27 - 28, 2009	I love my calendar girl ...Piper Islandflats All U Need is Love, is the featured puppy in the 365 Puppies A Year 2009 Calendar (Workman Publishing). Few pups in the calendar have their photo plastered across two days, but Piper was so cute in that shot (taken 2006), the publishers just couldn't resist. Once an adorable puppy, Piper is now a beautful dog. Piper ... America's next top model?
March 7, 2009	Northeast Flat-Coated Retriever Club Winter Meeting, Manchester, CT: In recognition of the titles that she earned in Obedience, Rally Obedience and Agility, Crystal receives a NEFCRC Versatility Award. The award is granted by the club to FCR members who excel at multiple disciplines. The plaque is proudly displayed in our home, along with all the other ribbons and certificates our dogs received. Good job Crystal!

February 22, 2009	Rockland County Kennel Club dog show, Suffern, NY: She showed beautifully! Lylah takes Winner's Bitch and Best of Opposite Sex in the conformation ring under Judge Dr. Robert A. Indeglia. Another point for our little girl, who is looking forward to return to the show ring in the near future. Good job Lylah!
February 14, 2009	Staten Island Companion Dog Training Club show, Staten Island, NY: Crystal goes back into the Rally ring and earns the second leg towards her Rally Excellent title! Distracted by the smells on the ground, Crystal sill managed to earn a qualifying score. Next time she'll score better (if she can keep her nose off the ground)! Happy Valentine's Day Crystal. We love you!
February 1, 2009	A new Veteran! Crystal celebrates her 7th birthday today. Logan and Lylah throw a birthday party for our oldest flatcoat girl with Frosty Paws and new toys. Happy Birthday Crystal, and Happy Birthday to Crystal's littermates too!
November 22-23, 2008	2008 Thanksgiving Classic, W. Springfield,MA - She did it for Bailey! Talcott Mountain Agility Club trials: Sat. (Nov 22) - Crystal earns the 2nd leg of her AXJ title with a clean run and a good time. On Sunday (Nov 23) Crystal earns the 2nd leg of her AX title with a third place finish! Later, she earns a new title by completing the third leg of her AXJ. She is now known as: TLC Starlite's First Gleaming CD RA OA AXJ NAC RL1 CGC. It was a weekend of mixed emotions, but we're so happy for our girl Crystal.
November 20, 2008	It's with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved boy Bailey (K'Mander's Goodfella Bailey RA RL1 CGC b.7/13/2000). People who fancy Flat-Coated Retrievers know how susceptible the breed is to cancer, but all the talk feels a heck of a lot different when the reality actually strikes one of your own. We'd like to thank all our family and friends who offered kind words and support during this sad and difficult time. Bailey ... Always a GoodfFella. Always a good boy. We'll always love you. We'll always miss you.
November 1, 2008	Staten Island Companion Dog Training Club Agility Trials, Staten Island, NY: Crystal is competing in the Excellent classes again, and today she had a clean run, earns a second place finish, and she earns her first leg in Jumpers! Crystal now has one leg towards her AXJ title. Good job Crystal!
October 18, 2008	Skyline Agility Club of Northern New Jersey - AKC trials - Yorktown Heights, NY:Her first time competing in the Excellent classes ... Crystal has a clean run in Standard, and with it comes a third place finish in her class! The course was difficult, and few dogs in the large entry actually qualified. Crystal now has one leg towards her AX title!
October 12, 2008	Ramapo Kennel Club, 50th Anniversary dog show, Augusta,NJ: Lylah is at it again! Under Judge Laura Dedering, our youngest girl takes Winners Bitch and Best of Opposite Sex for another point. We're really proud of Lylah, as she's beginning to display more maturity in front of the show judges. Also proud of Lylah was her sire, Logan. Showing his daughter the correct way to strut your stuff before a show judge, Logan also entered the ring and won Best of Breed (beating his daughter)! Naturally, Margaret couldn't handle both dogs in the ring at the same time, so Terry was ready to pitch in. That was, until a good friend offered to spare Terry the embarrassment of displaying his poor handling skills. New toys for Lylah and Logan ... hooray!
October 5, 2008	Ladies Kennel Club Agility Trials, Old Westbury, NY: A bumper leg forCrystal ... She didn't really need to compete in Standard Open Jumpers with Weaves today, but Crystal earned another first place finish - with a clean run - in her division! She will continue to compete in the Excellent classes from now on (oye ...).
September 27-28, 2008	The Long Island Cluster, Oyster Bay NY - Suffolk County Kennel Club dog show (Sept. 27) - Lylah takes Winners Bitch and Best of Opposite Sex to win her first point in the conformation ring under judge Marilyn C. Spacht. Lylah was both poised and beautiful as she strutted her stuff in the ring. Westbury Kennel Association dog show (Sept. 28) - Logan enters the conformation ring and wins Best of Breed under judge Jon R. Cole. Not too shabby, considering he paused on his way to the ring to roll around in the mud (classic Logan). Pretty good weekend for the Islandflats "L" dogs!
